Non Fiction Reading Response (4th Quarter #1)

Everyone loves to go on vacations, am I right? But before you arrive at your destination, everyone must go through a certain amount of hours stuck in an airplane. Some may enjoy the rides, but for others it will be horrific. Many can get airsick, many just are afraid to go up in the air and others don’t like the ride. But what do you have a favorite airline you like to go to? How good is it? If it was merged with another airline would you like it? I have currently read the article, “If American Airlines and US Airways Merge, What Should Fliers Expect?” by Stephanie Rosenbloom (NY Times) explains what should our passengers expect.

This article is about two of the largest airlines. American Airlines and US Airways. But the airways merged to become on airline what would our passengers expect. With both airways merging there are lots of changes. For example the article states,

“Maybe you don’t fly those airlines often, but here’s why you should care: the consolidation of two major carriers might affect how seamlessly you can fly. It might affect what you pay. It might even affect your miles strategy.”

This quote sounds like positive and negative outcomes. It’s just the way people think of it. This may be good because prices may be cheaper and it will be less hours up in the sky. But it may also be bad if prices go up and there are delays or longer periods in the sky.

Also the article states many things about the airline employees. For example, this quote is based on the actions of the employees. Based on how the employees act.

“Loyalty members on most airlines (including US Airways) get unlimited free upgrades, which, in general, they obtain based on their status and when they request an upgrade.”

This quote is explained for the American Airline employees who have a loyalty program.

Reading this article got me thinking a lot. If airlines merged there are many outcomes. If they’re positive and negative there are many changes. Changes in prices, flying mileage... But as for we know this may or may not happen.
